Scripture Sunday - Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
I thought this would be an appropriate passage today because of the recent, tragic events of the two shootings. I really want to just remind you guys that even in the midst of the suffering in this world, everything is still in God's hand. He has a plan that we don't really understand or know, but all I know is that it is good, and it is for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Think of it like this: picture someone embroidering. From what you see, you can only see the bottom of the embroidery, and it looks tangled and ugly. But from the creator's eye, she sees a beautiful picture on the right side. So it is with us and God the way we look at life. We see NOW and think it looks broken and hopeless, but God sees the outcome and knows that it will end up all right. So I just want to encourage you to remember that even when life is hard, just trust that it will lead to something good.
