Would you rather live for a lie, or die for the truth?

John 8:32 says,

"You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
My family enjoys reading Lamplighter books, and we often listen to the Lamplighter Theatre audios. One particular audio we like is "A Basket Of Flowers" by Christoph von Schmid. James, the king's gardener, teaches his 15-year-old daughter Mary all the principles of godliness through his flowers. She is falsely accused of stealing, and the penalty is death.

When I read this verse, I always think of "A Basket of Flowers" because James told Mary that it was better to die for the truth rather than live for a lie. That makes me really think, Would I be willing to die for the truth? Or would I lie to live? Believe it or not, many people have faced this question, especially in today's world. For example, terrorist attacks happening all over the world have forced people to choose what they stand for. I am a Christian, and I believe that Yahweh is God over all. After I hear about a terrorist attack that happened, I often ask myself, "Would I be willing to lose my life for what I truly believe, or would I just try to lie so I could live?" It is definitely not an easy question, and honestly, it sometimes makes me squirm. But in the end, "the truth will set you free." I've heard that people who have lied about something they believe in so that their lives are saved are haunted by their choice. Lying won't set you free; truth will.
